What To Bring To Class

Congratulations on your decision to work with your dog using one of the Custom Pets Dog Training programs!  You can expect to have fun with your dog while you both learn.

What To Bring:

Shot Records – Please bring your dog's most current shot records. I don't need to keep a copy, I only need to verify that your dog's shots are up-to-date.  Required inoculations are Distemper/Parvo combination for all dogs and Rabies for dogs six months and older.

Collar – All of our work will be done on a regular collar, a harness, or a martingale collar.  Pinch collars and choke chains are not used in Custom Pets Dog Training classes.

Leash - We’ll need a four- or six-foot cotton, leather, or nylon leash.  Retractable leashes and chain leashes don’t work in our class environment.

Treats - In our training programs, we use treats for some dogs all the time, and for all dogs some of the time, so bring some small, soft treats.  Cut any soft dog treat into pieces no larger than a pea.  Please - no kibble or dog biscuits. Experiment a bit to see what your dog will eat away from home in a very exciting, distracting environment.

Pacifier - It's very helpful to give the dogs something to do in class besides look at each other and bark, so please bring a 'pacifier' for your dog to chew on - a stuffed Kong, a stuffed bone, a cow's hoof, or any other safe chewy. Experiment with your dog to see what will keep his/her attention in a distracting environment. For more ideas, check out the article on Bored Dogs.

It's a good idea to wait to feed your dog after class. This helps your dog to be more motivated by the training treats, especially in a highly distracting class setting.

Basic Rules:

Family Members - You may bring as many family members of any age as you like, as we prefer getting the whole family involved whenever possible.  At times it will be necessary to work without distractions, so you may want to bring something to entertain very young children.  NOTE: There is often agility equipment set up in the training area.  This equipment was made for dogs, and is not safe for children to play on.

Refund Policy - You may request a refund up to 72 hours prior to the class start date/time. If you attend the first session, you may request a refund during or at the conclusion of that session.
